Invited Speaker: Lucía Rey Ares, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Spain
Lucía Rey Ares is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Spain. She obtained her PhD in Economics and Business from the same university. Her teaching activity focuses on Financial Accounting and related subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Prior to joining the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela in 2022, she worked at the Universidade da Coruña. Her research interests focus on personal finance, particularly financial vulnerability and financial literacy. She has participated in several research projects and is the author and co-author of academic articles published in national and international journals in these fields.
Presentation Summary: This session examines financial literacy in Spain based on evidence from national surveys and recent studies. It will present key findings on households’ financial knowledge and behaviours, including saving, debt management and understanding of basic investment concepts. The session will also discuss the main factors shaping financial literacy and its relationship with vulnerability to financial fraud. Finally, a brief comparative perspective will situate Spain within the broader European context.
