This programme is organised by ESTG P.PORTO, in partnership with PORTIC P.PORTO, Universitat Politècnica de València, Universidad de Vigo, SAXION University of Applied Sciences, University of West Attica.
Planned for higher education students and staff in the fields of Design, Engineering, Health and Management, will take place between the 30th of September and the 11th of October and will combine online sessions and an intensive face-to-face workshop, offering participants a unique opportunity to develop practical skills and a critical view of creating more inclusive working environments.
Participants will collaborate in the development of a wheelchair adapted for work environments, learning how to respond to the physical and cognitive needs of users, including people with neurodivergent conditions.
The programme’s main objectives are to understand mobility needs in the workplace, identifying challenges faced by wheelchair users; to apply inclusive design principles to develop wheelchairs that meet users’ physical and cognitive needs; to integrate innovative technologies such as automated controls and sensory interfaces for different people; to learn how to create and test functional prototypes, ensuring effectiveness and inclusiveness in design; and to incorporate sustainability and circularity principles into projects, considering the product’s entire life cycle.
The programme will include practical workshops, real-life case studies and collaborative projects, with the support of expert mentors. It will be an excellent opportunity for students and professionals to deepen their knowledge and contribute to the creation of more accessible and equitable workspaces.
